About DIY Yard Calc
DIY Yard Calc is a small set of free calculators that tell you how much material to buy for common yard and home projects, built to be fast, clear and honest about the math.
Why this site exists
Ordering materials is where many projects go wrong. Buy too little and you lose a weekend driving back to the store or waiting for another delivery. Buy too much and the extra sits in the garage. We wanted simple tools that give a confident number in seconds, show every step of the math, and work on a phone in the store aisle.
Each calculator explains its formula, the inputs people get wrong and how much extra to allow, with a worked example you can check by hand.
How the calculators work
All the math runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to a server or saved. The formulas use standard industry rules of thumb, such as 27 cubic feet per cubic yard, 100 square feet per roofing square and common bag yields, and they are tested against known answers every time the site is updated.
What these tools are not
The calculators estimate material quantities. They are not a contractor's quote and do not design structures, size footings or check code compliance. For decks, roofs, retaining walls and anything structural, follow your local building code and get professional advice where needed.
